অমল দত্ত বারবার বলতেন, ফুটবলের নুন হল গোল। প্রয়াত কোচকে মনে পড়ার কারণ, সোমবার যুবভারতীতে মোহনবাগান সুপার জায়েন্ট এবং চেন্নাইয়িন এফসি–‌র অজস্র সুযোগ নষ্ট। ৮৫ মিনিটে পরিবর্ত লিস্টন কোলাসোর ক্রস বুক দিয়ে জালে পাঠিয়ে একমাত্র গোল পেয়ে এমবিএসজি–‌কে তিন পয়েন্ট এনে দিলেন মনবীর সিং, এবারের আইএসএল-এ ঘরের মাঠে প্রথম ম্যাচে। কিন্তু, ম্যাচজুড়ে থেকে গেল দুই দলের তরফেই প্রচুর গোলের সুযোগ হেলায় হারানোর ঘটনা।

সুযোগ নষ্টের খেসারত দিতে হল ক্লিফোর্ড মিরান্ডার চেন্নাইকে। প্রথমার্ধে যখন দাপট তাদের, ব্রাইসন, ইরফান, নিকোলারা কখনও ওড়ালেন, কখনও বিশাল কাইথকে সুযোগ দিলেন গোল বাঁচানোর। ৭৮ মিনিটে তো নিকোলার শট ফিরল ক্রসবারে ধাক্কা খেয়ে, বিশালের আঙুল ছুঁয়ে। মাঝমাঠে মাদি তালালের দুরন্ত পারফরম্যান্সও তাই বাঁচাতে পারল না, যুবভারতী থেকে শূন্যহাতেই ফিরতে হল চেন্নাইয়িনকে।

আয়ুষ ছেত্রি, তালাল ও নিকোলা স্তোইয়ানোভিচের মাঝমাঠের পায়েই ছিল নিয়ন্ত্রণ যেখানে চেন্নাইয়ের তিন আক্রমণভাগের ফুটবলার ইরফান ইয়াদওয়াদ, ব্রাইসন ফেরনানদেসের সঙ্গে ব্রাজিলীয় রামন দে আনদ্রাদে সৌসার দুর্দান্ত বোঝাপড়ায় মোহনবাগান রক্ষণ বারবারই পরাস্ত হচ্ছিল। অনিরুধ থাপাকে শুরুতে রাখেননি সুপার জায়েন্ট কোচ পানোস, পরিবর্তে মাঝমাঠের রক্ষণাত্মক কাজের দায়িত্ব দিয়েছিলেন দীপক টাংরি ও সামির জেলিকোভিচকে, যাঁদের সামনে তিন আক্রমণাত্মক মিডফিল্ডারের ভূমিকায় ছিলেন মনবীর, দেইয়ান দ্রাজিচ ও লালিয়ানজুয়ালা ছাংতে। সবাইকে ছাপিয়ে গিয়েছিলেন তালাল। বুদ্দিদীপ্ত পাস, শুটিং, খেলার গতি নিয়ন্ত্রণ করা এবং ডিফেন্সচেরা পাসিংয়ে নিশ্চিতভাবেই নিজেকে চেনাচ্ছিলেন ফরাসি তালাল।

দ্বিতীয়ার্ধের শুরু থেকেই পানোস পাল্টাতে শুরু করেন তাঁর মাঝমাঠ। ছাংতেকে তুলে আবদুল সামাদকে নামালেন, ৫৪ মিনিটে সামিরের জায়গায় থাপাকে এবং উইং থেকে আক্রমণে ওঠার জন্য বহুযুদ্ধের সৈনিক শুভাশিস বসুকেও। তাই দ্বিতীয়ার্ধে চেন্নাইয়িনের দাপট কমল। সামাদ–‌থাপার কিছু পাস এবং আরও গুরুত্বপূর্ণ কয়েকটা পাসের গতিপথ আগেই বুঝতে পেরে আটকে দেওয়া ম্যাচের রাশ এনে দিয়েছিল সুপার জায়েন্টের পায়ে। মাঝেমাঝে অবশ্যই আক্রমণে গিয়েছিল চেন্নাই। কিন্তু ব্রাইসন–‌নিকোলাদের ক্রমাগত ব্যর্থতায় গোল অধরাই থেকে যায়। হ্যাঁ, মোট ২৫ বার বিপক্ষের গোল লক্ষ্য করে শট বা হেড ইত্যাদি করলেও একবারও জাল খুঁজে পাননি তাঁরা।

৮২ মিনিটে মাঠে এসেছিলেন লিস্টন কোলাসো। তিন মিনিটের মধ্যেই বাঁদিক থেকে তিনি মাপা ক্রস রাখলেন, আর তখনও পর্যন্ত চেন্নাইয়ের এমানুয়েল নিশ্ছিদ্র থাকলেও মনবীরকে আটকাতে পারলেন না। বুদ্ধিমত্তার সঙ্গেই বলের উচ্চতা বুঝে পা বা মাথা দিয়ে গোলে বল পাঠানোর চেষ্টা না করে, বুকের টোকায় ঠেলে দেন গোলে। আর সেই গোলেই পরপর দ্বিতীয় ম্যাচে তিন পয়েন্ট এল মোহনবাগান সুপার জায়েন্টের। পয়েন্ট তালিকায় ছয় থেকে পাঁচে উঠেও এল। 

পানোসের সুবিধা, পরের দু’‌টি ম্যাচই ঘরের মাঠে যার প্রথমটি আগামী ৩১ অক্টোবর, শনিবার, পাঞ্জাব এফসি–‌র বিরুদ্ধে। মাঝের এই চার দিনে তাঁর কাজ অবশ্য থেকে গেল একই — কী করে আরও গোল খুঁজে পাওয়া যায়!‌

জিততে গেলে গোল করতে হয়, ফুটবলের সহজ সত্যি। মোহনবাগান সুপার জায়েন্ট, এবারের আইএসএল–‌এর প্রথম দু–‌ম্যাচে, সেই কাজটা যথাযথ করতে পারেনি বলেই দু–‌ম্যাচে তিন পয়েন্ট এসেছে ঘরে। প্রথম ম্যাচে নর্থইস্ট ইউনাইটেডের বিরুদ্ধে তো ২৬বার গোলমুখে গিয়েও ফিরেছিল শূন্য হাতে। তাই কলকাতায় ঘরের মাঠে প্রথম ম্যাচে চেন্নাইয়িন এফসি–‌র বিরুদ্ধে খেলার আগে এমবিএসজি–‌র গ্রিক কোচ পানাগিওতিস দিলমপেরিসের ভাবনা, সুযোগগুলোকে জালে পাঠানো নিয়ে!‌

সমস্যাও আছে। জেমি ম্যাকলারেন পুরো সুস্থ নন। মিগেল ফিগেইরার হ্যামস্ট্রিংয়ে চোট, অনুশীলন করেননি। আপুইয়া হাসপাতালে। তিন গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ফুটবলার না–‌থাকায় কম্বিনেশন নিয়েও ভাবতে হচ্ছে কোচ পানোসকে। প্রয়োজনে ছাংতেকে আবারও লেফট ব্যাক হিসাবে শুরু করিয়ে পরে ওপরে তুলে আনতে পারেন, আভাস দিলেন ম্যাচের আগের দিন সাংবাদিক সম্মেলনে।

‘‌গোল করতে হবে, ফুটবলে ওটাই কাজ। তবে শুধুই আক্রমণভাগের ফুটবলাররা নয়, আজকের ফুটবলে সবাই গোল করতে পারে। সেই দিকেই নজর আমাদের। যারা খেলবে, যেন সর্বত্র খেলতে পারে এবং গোলের সামনে পৌঁছলে বল জালে পাঠাতে পারে, সেই লক্ষ্যেই অনুশীলন চলছে। হয়ত প্রথম দু–‌ম্যাচে মাত্র দু’‌টিই গোল পেয়েছি। কিন্তু, ২৬টা গোলের সুযোগ পেয়ে একটাও হয়নি, ফুটবলে এমনও ঘটে না। অন্তত তিন–‌চার গোল হওয়া উচিত ছিল প্রথম খেলায়। হয়নি, অতীত নিয়ে বসে থেকে লাভ নেই। লক্ষ্য সামনের চেন্নাইয়িন ম্যাচ এবং এক–‌একটা ম্যাচ ধরেই এগোতে আগ্রহী,’ জানালেন পানোস।

গতবারের মতো একপর্বের লিগ নয় এবার। দু–‌পর্বে ঘরে–‌বাইরে খেলে সবচেয়ে বেশি পয়েন্ট অর্জন করতে হবে। আর এই ম্যারাথন লিগে, পানোস মনে করছেন, বিপক্ষের দলগুলো তিনভাগে বিভক্ত। ‘‌খুব ভাল, ভাল এবং কিছু আপাতদৃষ্টিতে সাধারণ দল‌। আমরা শুরু করেছি প্রথম দু’‌টি ম্যাচ বাইরে খেলে এবং দু’‌টি বেশ ভাল দলের বিরুদ্ধে। চেন্নাইয়িনও বেশ ভাল, ওদের কোচ (‌ক্লিফোর্ড মিরান্ডা)‌ ফুটবল–‌শিক্ষিত। উপভোগ্য খেলা হবে রবিবার যুবভারতীতে,’‌ মনে করছেন পানোস।

প্রথম এগার কোনও কোচই জানান না আগের দিন। পানোস ব্যতিক্রম নন। তবে এমবিএসজি পরিচিত আক্রমণাত্মক ফুটবলের রাস্তায় থাকবে, জানাতে ভোলেন না। আলোচিত হল মিডল থার্ডে বল নিজেদের দখলে রেখে চেন্নাইকে বিব্রত করার প্রসঙ্গও। কলকাতায় লিগ–‌শিল্ড ‘‌ডাবল’‌ করার পর আইএসএল–‌এ প্রথম ম্যাচের আগে আত্মবিশ্বাসী পানোস আগ্রহী তৃতীয় ম্যাচে তিন পয়েন্ট তুলতে, দাপটে!‌

সেখানে তুরুপের তাস হতে পারেন অনিরুধ থাপা। এই যুবভারতীতেই যিনি কিছু দিন আগে উরুগুয়ের বিরুদ্ধে গোল পেয়েছিলেন ভারতের জার্সিতে। আবারও গোল পেলে কার না ভাল লাগে!‌

তবে অনিরুধ উচ্ছ্বসিত ভারতের অনূর্থ্ব১৫ দলের ফিফা অনূর্ধ্ব১৫ বিশ্বকাপের পারফরম্যান্স নিয়ে। ‘‌ক্যামেরুনকে হারিয়েছে, প্রথম ম্যাচেও জিতেছিল। প্রতিভারা যেন বয়স বাড়ার সঙ্গে সঙ্গে হারিয়ে না যায়, নজর রাখতে হবে সেই দিকেই। সমস্যাটা শুরু হয় ১৭–‌১৮ বা ১৯–‌২০, তারও পরে ২২–‌২৩ বছরে পৌঁছে। ১৪–‌১৫য় বিশ্বের যে কোনও দলের সঙ্গেই বোধহয় পাল্লা দিতে পারি। এই প্রতিভাদের দরকার নিয়মিত খেলার সুযোগ। বাইরের শক্তিশালী দেশগুলির বিরুদ্ধেয টানা খেলতে পারলে ওরাই দেশের উজ্জ্বল ভবিষ্যতের স্বপ্নটা সফল করতে পারবে ফুটবল মাঠে’‌, বলছিলেন অনিরুধ।

Ramírez, Loba on song as East Bengal FC thrash Inter Kashi

Pune, 23 October 2026: East Bengal FC delivered a commanding performance against Inter Kashi at the Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex, with a convincing 5-1 victory in the MG ISL. Aké Loba scored a brace while Dani Ramírez , PV Vishnu and Lukasz Zwolinski too found the back of the net in what was a lopsided contest, in Pune.

The defending champions made a dominant start, with in-form Ramírez opening the scoring in the 8th minute. Receiving the ball on the right side of the penalty area, Ramírez lifted the ball over Albino Gomes to put East Bengal ahead. The Torchbearers doubled their advantage in the 16th minute through Vishnu, who finished a swift counterattack with a left-footed strike into the bottom-left corner after being set up by Loba.

East Bengal extended their lead in the 22nd minute when Loba converted a penalty, awarded after Ramírez was brought down inside the box by Wayne Vaz. Loba fired a right-footed effort into the top-right corner to open his scoring tally for the season. Inter Kashi pulled one back in the 28th minute after Lalchungnunga scored an own goal, giving the visitors a lifeline. However, East Bengal continued their attacking approach, with Loba completing his brace to make it 4-1 before half-time.

With the game firmly in the Torchbearers' hands, head coach Habas made changes at the start of the second half, substituting key players Rashid, Loba and Vipin Singh to avoid injuries and give the young players some minutes. East Bengal FC adopted a more measured approach, prioritising possession and avoiding unnecessary risks, while Inter Kashi pressed hard in search of a way back into the contest.

Lukasz Zwolinski came off the bench and scored his first goal in the MG ISL for East Bengal FC in the 81st minute, finding the bottom-left corner with a left-footed shot from close range after Christopher Ikonomidis provided the assist.

Defending Champions East Bengal FC Outclass Churchill Brothers

National, October 18, 2026: Defending champions East Bengal FC made a resounding start to their MG Indian Super League 2026-27 campaign, registering a dominant 4-0 victory over Churchill Brothers at the PJN Stadium, in Fatorda, on Sunday. Goals from Dani Ramirez, Edmund Lalrindika and substitute Bipin Singh (2) sealed the points for Antonio Habas’ side, in what was the biggest win of the season so far.

The Torchbearers took the lead as early as the second minute through a stunning free-kick from Dani Ramírez. The midfielder struck with his left foot from just outside the penalty area, curling the ball into the top-left corner. Churchill Brothers responded with urgency, raising the tempo and creating opportunities to get back into the contest. The home side came close to finding an equaliser and even struck the woodwork, but East Bengal remained defensively organised to preserve their advantage.

The visitors doubled their lead towards the end of the first half with a well-worked attacking move as David Hmar received the ball on the left, held it up before picking out Edmund, who made a timely run into the box to finish past Sayad Kadir in the Churchill Brothers’ goal. The strike would send East Bengal into the half-time break with a comfortable 2-0 lead.

Both teams would create chances in the early exchanges of the second period, however the hosts would struggle to make their opportunities count in the final third, while East Bengal remained composed with a two-goal advantage. Habas introduced Bipin Singh in the second half, and the move paid off in the 85th minute as the winger scored a superb curling effort into the top corner to make it 3-0.

Bipin struck again five minutes later to complete his brace. PV Vishnu delivered a cross from the left, which Singh finished to extend East Bengal's lead and seal the points. The defending champions have made a strong statement at the start of their campaign, while Churchill Brothers, who began their season with a promising 1-0 win over Mumbai City FC, will look to bounce back when they face Punjab FC in a weeks’ time.

Second-Half Goals Seal MBSG’s Comeback Win Over Sporting Club Delhi

National, October 16, 2026: Mohun Bagan Super Giant came from behind to secure a 2-1 victory over Sporting Club Delhi (SC Delhi) in their MG Indian Super League 2026/27 encounter at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, in New Delhi, on Friday. After Lalrinliana Hnamte gave the hosts the lead in the first half, Lee Erwin and Miguel Figueira struck within four minutes of each other after the break to complete the Mariners’ comeback.

The Phoenixes started brightly, with Juan Peña testing Bagan goalkeeper Vishal Kaith with a long-range effort in the fourth minute. SC Delhi continued to press, with Lamgoulen Hangshing sending an effort over the crossbar following a corner in the eighth minute.

The Mariners responded through Lee Erwin, whose effort from outside the box went wide. Rahul Bheke came close to breaking the deadlock, connecting with Lallianzuala Chhangte’s cross, but SC Delhi goalkeeper Nora Fernandes made a save to keep the scores level.

SC Delhi broke the impasse in the 23rd minute. Manoj Mohammad picked out Lalrinliana Hnamte, who finished with his left foot into the bottom-left corner to give the Phoenixes a 1-0 lead.

Both sides continued to threaten in attack before the break. Rodriguinho tested Kaith with a long-range effort, while Miguel Figueira’s attempt from outside the box was saved by Nora Fernandes. At the other end, Lee Erwin forced another save from the SC Delhi goalkeeper in the 39th minute before narrowly missing the target in first-half stoppage time. SC Delhi went into the half-time break with their 1-0 lead intact.

The Mariners came out with greater urgency after the restart and drew level in the 56th minute. Rahul Bheke picked out Lee Erwin inside the box, and the forward calmly slotted home with his right foot into the bottom-left corner to make it 1-1.

Bagan completed the turnaround just four minutes later, with Miguel Figueira finding the net in the 60th minute. Set up by Lalengmawia Ralte, Figueira finished with his left foot, placing the ball into the bottom-left corner to give the visitors a 2-1 lead.

The Phoenixes looked to respond when Rodriguinho tried his luck from outside the box in the 72nd minute, but his effort went over the crossbar.

The Mariners continued to threaten in the closing stages. Samir Zeljković tested Nora Fernandes from inside the box, while Alberto Rodríguez sent a header over the crossbar following a corner. Manvir Singh also forced a save from the SC Delhi goalkeeper late in the game as the visitors looked to extend their advantage.

SC Delhi pushed for a late equaliser, with Lalrinliana Hnamte sending an effort over the crossbar in the 90+6th minute. However, the Mariners held on through the closing moments to secure a 2-1 victory and claim all three points after an impressive second-half comeback.
